This company has very good customer service and is always willing to go above and beyond to ensure that we get our equipment where it needs to go. Their logistics coordinator always calls or emails me ahead of time to double check that the correct truck and trailer are coming for the equipment being hauled.

Texas Heavy Equipment Trucking FAQs

How is heavy equipment transported?

A variety of heavy-duty trailers are used to transport large equipment, depending on the weight and dimensions of the load. These include removable gooseneck trailers (RGNs), lowboys, step decks, drop decks, and flatbed trucks. Our team has many years of experience in the heavy haul transport industry and will pair your load with the best type of equipment for the job.

Removable Gooseneck (RGN Trailers)

  • Max Weight: 150,000+ lbs
  • Main Deck Length: 29 ft.
  • Max Width: 8.5 ft.
  • Legal Height Limit: 11.6 ft. (if the deck is no more than 24” above the ground)

Step Deck Trailers/Drop Deck Trailers

  • Max Weight: 48,000 lbs.
  • Max Length: 53 ft.
  • Max Width: 8.5 ft.
  • Max Height: 10.5 ft. (with the bottom deck 36” above the ground)

Flatbed Trailers

  • Max Weight: 48,000 lbs.
  • Max Length: 53 ft.
  • Max Width: 8.5 ft.
  • Max Height: 8.5 ft.

What types of heavy equipment do you transport?

Titan transports all types of heavy equipment and heavy machinery for the construction, mining, industrial, oil & gas, energy, and agriculture sectors. Specific equipment that we handle includes bulldozers, wheel loaders, cranes, dump trucks, excavators, tractors, and mining equipment.

What kind of permits will I need to transport oversize cargo through Texas?

Oversize loads are freight that weighs more than the legal criteria within a state. This includes the height, length, and width of a load. Moving heavy and oversize equipment requires specialized trailers, equipment, and possibly escort vehicles. You’ll also need specific permits issued by the state of Texas, and additional regulations will vary locally.

Texas also has specific times of the day when an oversize load can be operated, starting at half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. A legal rear and front overhang can travel at night, but only on the interstates.

When you work with Titan for your heavy equipment transport services, our truck drivers will take care of all the permitting needs required to ship your load through Texas, as well as any other states. That means no delays, no fines, and no hassle for our clients!

What’s considered an oversize load in Texas?

The standard legal length of a semi-trailer in Texas is 59 feet, with a maximum weight not to exceed 80,000 pounds. Loads exceeding these dimensions are considered oversize and require a permit. Long loads that exceed 125 feet will require a super load permit. Routes for super loads must be planned in cooperation with the state’s Department of Transportation.

Oversize load permits in Texas last for three to five days. Permits need to be applied for and received before traveling through the state. Our experienced team will handle all of the work to obtain any special permits and coordinate the best route with the state!

Will I need an escort to transport my cargo through Texas?

Escort requirements are determined by the final size of your shipment. Signs are only required on escort vehicles. Red flags should be placed at all extremities. If oversize loads are traveling on Texas highways, an escort is required for lengths over 109′, width over 14′, height over 17′, or an overhang more than 20′. If the load is over two dimensions that require escort, then 2 escorts will be required.

Our team is committed to making the process hassle-free for our customers. Our truck drivers will make all the arrangements if pilot cars are needed for any of the locations your cargo will travel through, whether through the southwestern states, Mexico, or all the way to Canada.

How much does it cost to ship oversize loads in Texas?

Many factors affect the transport costs of over-dimensional loads, including:

  • Load size
  • Type of goods
  • Mileage and designated routes
  • Pick up and destination location
  • Time of year and trucking demand
  • Number and type of permits required
  • Escort requirements

Titan is your one-stop transportation solution for all your heavy cargo. Contact us today for an all-inclusive shipping quote that includes all delivery, permit, and escort costs. We would love to serve your business!
