Axle Weight Regulations By State

Maximum Legal Weight Allowed

Gross vehicle weight – 80,000 pounds

The maximum weight allowed in Missouri per axle is 20,000 pounds on the interstate and 22,000 pounds on non-interstate roads. The maximum weigh allowed per tandem is 34,000 pounds on the interstate and 36,000 pounds on non-interstate roads. This applies to roads that are not marked with lower weight restrictions.

On all highways other than the interstate system an additional 2,000 pounds may be added to the weight table, except the 80,000 pound maximum gross weight may not be exceeded.

Maximum Permit Weight Allowed

The maximum allowable axle weights for permits are as follows:

Axle Group                                                                    Maximum
Single 20,000 pounds
Tandem 46,000 pounds (but no more than 24,000 pounds for any axle of a multi-axle group)
Triple 60,000 pounds (but no more that 21,000 pounds for any axle of a multi-axle group)
Quadrum 72,000 pounds (but no more than 19,000 pounds for any axle of a quadrum axle group)
Gross Vehicle Weight 160,000 pounds
