CA Truck Network Maps

The color-coded “California Truck Network Map” for State highways is the official government source for truck route information. There are many private truck route guides, e.g., the Rand McNally Motor Carrier Atlas and various GPS systems. However, the accuracy of those private guides cannot be guaranteed, and must be verified by consulting the official “Caltrans Truck Network Map.” The table at the bottom of the page shows which color routes on the map your truck may legally travel on.

California Heavy Haul Trucking FAQ

What kind of permits will I need to transport cargo through California?

The driver of an oversized load needs to obtain a permit from the state of California. Super load carriers will also need special permits.

When you work with Titan for your trucking needs, our truck drivers will take care of all the California oversize permits required to ship your load, as well as any permits required by other states the freight will be transported through. We will also perform route surveys and create a logistics plan to ensure the most efficient travel schedule. That means no delays, no fines, and no hassle for our clients!

Our team is dedicated to putting in the hard work to ensure a safe and on-time delivery for your shipment.

Will I need an escort to transport my cargo through California?

Escort requirements are determined by the final size of your shipment. At a minimum, all oversize loads/vehicles must display “Oversize Load” on both front and rear.

If oversized shipments are traveling on one of California’s highways, one or more escorts are required for lengths over 120′, width over 12′, or height over 18′.

Our team is committed to making the process hassle-free for our customers. Our truck drivers will make all the arrangements if pilot cars are needed for any of the locations your cargo will travel through, whether into the Rocky Mountain region, Canada or Mexico, or all the way to eastern coast.

What's considered an oversized load in California?

In California, the legal dimensions for standard trucks, including overhang, are 75′ long, 8’6″ wide, and 14′ high, with a gross weight ranging from 80,000.

Titan Worldwide has experience working with the rules and regulations of California. Our logistics team will create a tailored shipping solution so you don’t have to worry about anything.

To obtain more information on dimensions and regulations, check out the California DOT information provided on our permitting page here.

How much does it cost to ship oversized loads in California?

You can generally expect to pay between $2.30 and $10 per mile. Many factors affect the cost of shipping goods, including:

  • Load size
  • Type of goods
  • Mileage and designated routes
  • Pick up and destination location
  • Time of year and trucking demand
  • Permit requirements
  • Escort requirements

Titan is your one-stop transportation solution for all your heavy cargo. Contact us today for an all-inclusive price quote that includes all delivery, permit, and escort costs. We would love to serve your business!

What kind of trailers do you have for handling heavy equipment?

Our specialty is transporting heavy loads for the construction, agriculture, and oilfield industries throughout California and across the country. Our solutions, resources, and trucking equipment are tailored to the specific needs of each business.

For example, a common option in our heavy haul fleet is our flatbed trailer, which offers a maximum weight of 48,000 pounds.

For many super loads, we’ll utilize our removable gooseneck RGN trailer. The maximum weight of this trailer is over 150,000 pounds. This option is ideal for very large items over the maximum height for hauling inside a trailer.

No matter what the job requires—whether a gooseneck, flatbed, or a step deck trailer—our company will match your unique cargo to the best trailer for the transport, and guarantee to get it loaded and delivered safely and professionally.
